What Leaders in Education Are Saying About the McGrath Video Curriculum

“Our association with McGrath Training Systems began in 1997, when we first began our concentrated focus on protecting our schools, staff and students by reducing claims relating to all forms of discrimination. It was important to educate our membership on the legal aspects of culture diversity and on how to identify, investigate and prevent harassment and sexual abuse in both the school and office settings. We offer classroom and video-conference training programs, and have added the Cyberschool and Video training programs to our risk control arsenal. The McGrath programs are important tools to help prevent risk and to make our membership defensible in the event of a claim.”

The videos have proven effective as a follow-up with students and staff. Very few sexual harassment complaints have been reported this year – a decrease from previous years. I attribute this decrease primarily to the training and the training materials presented to our administrators, staff and students by McGrath.

The District has used Sexual Harassment: Minimize the Risk since 1996 and we have found them to be most helpful in training students and staff about sexual harassment. In 1998, our district purchased the Early Faces of Violence video series designed for younger students. Our students are very receptive to the videos. They are interested, pay attention and enjoy the theme The staff responsible for the training…respond very positively to the way this difficult subject is presented. Your videos are an invaluable tool in our efforts to train all of our 50,000 plus students and 6,000 plus employees. Thank you for providing a high quality, effective product which helps us convey the message to students, staff and our community.

[Regarding] The Early Faces of Violence video series…I compliment you on excellent materials. I did share these with Portland’s gender equity team. We all agree these are powerful. I hear some of the statements playing in my head weeks after watching the videos.

The student videos are fast-paced and produced in a way that today’s teens can relate to – but they also cover the issue thoroughly and accurately. From the many videos on the market, few have been able to achieve both interest from the students and confidence from the staff that the material presented is accurate. Your videos have certainly achieved this. Thank you for making legally based, current videos that really speak to today’s children and teens and the issues they face. With a very limited budget for purchasing materials for our school programs, we feel we made a good investment in McGrath videos.

I am particularly impressed with your [sexual harassment] videos. I feel that this is an excellent tool for school districts to use to make students aware of the problem of sexual harassment. Your utilization of the “peer approach” to this issue and the dramatizations are very convincing.
